MCJ & Cool G were a Canadian hip-hop duo, consisting of James E. McQuaid (MCJ) and Richard Gray (3) (Cool G). Emerging in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they were known for blending hip-hop and R&B, a style that helped shape the Canadian urban music scene. The duo gained recognition with their 1990 debut album So Listen, which featured the hit "Smooth as Silk". Their sound was influenced by both New Jack Swing and Golden Era hip-hop, making them stand out in the evolving hip-hop landscape of the time. Although their mainstream success was short-lived, MCJ & Cool G played a role in paving the way for future Canadian hip-hop artists, contributing to the genre’s early development in the country.
