She was a flamboyant virtuoso who enjoyed mixing many different songs into medleys, demonstrating her technique and even visited clubs with [a265634, who enjoyed pitting her against pianists who wanted to get into a cutting contest with him, as he enjoyed watching her devour the competition. One of her most enjoyable sessions has not been commercially issued, her appearance on [a296956's Piano Jazz on NPR. After a rousing finale of "Little Rock Getaway," Marian told her, "Oh, Dorothy, you wasted me." Donegan's response was, "It was no contest!"
